Sensors, sometimes called probes, are used for monitoring electrical, mechanical, thermal, or optical conditions. Called “detectors” in measuring technology, sensors take qualitative or quantitative measure of physical or chemical characteristics and convert them into electrical signals. They are used in automotive technology, for instance, to capture latitudinal and longitudinal acceleration or illumination strength. A prime factor in the extreme efficiency of modern motors and gear drives is the fact that their control electronics receive precise data from sensors. Sensors are a significant component of machines and control systems in industry – in mechanical engineering, logistics, and medicine, for instance.
