Recycling & WEEE disposal

You must not dispose of waste electrical and electronic equipment and batteries in household waste. Waste electrical and electronic equipment contains valuable resources that can be recovered and reused through recycling processes. It may also contain harmful substances that must not be released into the environment.

Disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment

1. How to recognize electrical appliances?

Disposal of old appliances

Waste equipment on which a crossed-out wheeled garbage can is depicted represents such electrical and electronic equipment that must be disposed of separately in accordance with § 10 ElektroG.

This crossed-out dustbin symbol indicates that electrical and electronic devices do not belong in household waste. You are required to take old appliances to a designated collection point. Before handing them in, you must remove any spent batteries or rechargeable batteries that are not built into the device.

2. Your Responsibility

As an end-user, you are legally required to dispose of old electrical devices separately from regular household waste. Before handing them in, please remove any old batteries or rechargeable batteries that are not built into the device, as well as any light bulbs that can be removed without breaking them. These must be disposed of separately. You can take your old electronic devices to an official local collection point. Since we are also required to take them back, you can hand in your old devices directly to us (Bürklin GmbH & Co. KG, Grünwalder Weg 30, D-82041 Oberhaching) free of charge, in standard household quantities.

3. Our Take-Back Obligation

As a retailer, we are required by law to take back old electrical and electronic equipment. We will handle the proper treatment, recycling, and disposal for you in accordance with legal regulations—completely free of charge. Bürklin GmbH & Co. KG is officially registered with the German "Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register" (EAR) under registration number DE 58758954.

When shipping an order placed via our Online-Shop, the following take-back conditions apply:

When you buy a device from one of the categories listed below, you can request a free pickup of your old device. As a retailer, we are legally required to offer you this service. The old device must have essentially the same functions as the new one.

  • ElektroG Category 1: Heat exchangers (e.g. refrigerators, air conditioners, etc.)
  • ElektroG category 2: screens, monitors and devices containing screens with a surface area of more than 100 cm² (e.g. televisions, computer monitors, etc.)
  • ElektroG category 4: large devices (e.g. mainframe computers, large printers, copiers; at least one of the external dimensions is more than 50 cm)

During the checkout process in our online shop, you can let us know if you would like a free pickup for your old electrical device. You will then be given the option to drop off the old device at a parcel service provider free of charge. For items shipped via a freight forwarding company (large appliances), it is possible to have your old device picked up directly when the new one is delivered; we will inform you about this in good time.

Note: Please note that it is not possible to choose a specific date for the pickup. On the collection day—which will be confirmed with you after coordination with the parcel service—the old device must be ready for handover within a time slot from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Batteries, rechargeable batteries, and light bulbs that can be removed without breaking them must be taken out of the old device beforehand. The item must be securely packed for transport, and the shipment must not exceed the maximum size and weight limits for a standard parcel. Please also make sure to delete all personal or sensitive data from your old device before handing it over.

Please note that light bulbs and small appliances with an edge length of 50 cm or less (Categories 3, 5, and 6) are excluded from the home pickup service. However, you can return these to us free of charge after your purchase, or drop them off at another collection point near you.

You can find your nearest collection point at www.e-schrott-entsorgen.org.

b) Returning small appliances to collection points

ou can return small old devices with a maximum edge length of 25 centimeters to us free of charge in standard household quantities, even if you are not purchasing a new device. Old appliances can also be dropped off at the collection points of public waste management authorities (such as local municipal recycling centers) or at take-back points set up by manufacturers and distributors in accordance with the ElektroG.

You can find your nearest collection point at www.e-schrott-entsorgen.org.

Battery Disposal

Spent batteries and rechargeable batteries can be returned free of charge at local municipal collection points, recycling centers, or anywhere at retail stores where batteries are sold. Bürklin is part of the GRS take-back system and is registered with the "Stiftung Elektro-Altgeräte Register" (EAR) under registration number DE 25355563. This applies to all types of batteries, regardless of shape, size, mass, material composition, or use. Therefore, the law also applies to batteries that are built into or enclosed with products.
