Soldering tip cleaners, type Weller WDC
particularly lead-free solder may propagate the development of oxide on the surface of the soldering tip. Such oxide layers must be removed as these quickly develop into a black separating layer which cannot be moistened. A special spiral wool is used to clean the soldering tip in the WELLER WDC Dry Cleaner. For rough cleaning, the contaminated solder residue is removed by tapping the tip onto the soft edge of the container. The soldering tip is finally cleaned by wiping or twisting it in the spiral wool. The thin solder residue layer on the tip which remains after fine cleaning prevents immediate oxidation.
