The ADUM1402ARWZ is a quad-channel digital isolator based on Analog Devices iCoupler technology. Combining high speed CMOS and monolithic air core transformer technology, this isolation component provides outstanding performance characteristics superior to alternatives, such as optocoupler devices. By avoiding the use of LEDs and photodiodes, the iCoupler device removes the design difficulty commonly associated with optocouplers. The typical optocoupler concern regarding uncertain current transfer ratio, nonlinear transfer function, and temperature and lifetime effect is eliminated with the simple iCoupler digital interface and stable performance characteristic.The need for an external driver and other discrete component is eliminated with this iCoupler product. Furthermore, the iCoupler device consumes one tenth to one sixth of the power of an optocoupler at a comparable signal data rate.

The ADUM1402ARWZ isolator provides four independent isolation channel in a variety of channel configuration and data rate (see the Ordering Guide). All model operates with the supply voltage on either side ranging from 2.7 V to 5.5 V, providing compatibility with a lower voltage system as well as enabling a voltage translation functionality across the isolation barrier. In addition, the ADUM1402ARWZ provides low pulse width distortion (<2 ns for CRW grade) and tight channel-to-channel matching (<2 ns for CRW grade). Unlike another optocoupler alternative, the ADUM1402ARWZ isolator has a patented refresh feature that ensures dc correctness in the absence of an input logic transition and when power is not applied to one of the supplies.
