TPS2021DR
Power-Distribution Switch, TPS2021DR, Texas Instruments
The TPS2021 power distribution switch is designed for applications where heavy capacitive loads and short circuits are likely to occur. It is a 50-mΩ N-channel MOSFET high-side power switch, controlled by a logic enable input compatible with both 5-V and 3-V logic levels. An internal charge pump drives the gate of the MOSFET, managing rise and fall times to minimize current surges during switching. This charge pump requires no external components and enables operation from supply voltages as low as 2.7 V.
When the output load exceeds the current-limit threshold or a short circuit is present, the TPS2021 enters a constant-current mode to limit the output current safely, while pulling the overcurrent (OC) logic output low. In cases of sustained overload or short-circuit conditions that lead to excessive power dissipation, the device's thermal protection circuitry shuts off the switch to prevent damage. Once the junction temperature drops to a safe level, the switch automatically recovers. Built-in undervoltage lockout ensures that the switch remains off until a valid input voltage is present.
