The LM2674MX-5.0/NOPB regulator is monolithic integrated circuitry built with an LMDMOS process. This regulator provides all the active functions for a step-down (buck) switching regulator, capable of driving a 500 mA load current with excellent line and load regulation. Requiring a minimum number of external components, this regulator is simple to use and includes patented internal frequency compensation and a fixed frequency oscillator. The LM2674MX-5.0/NOPB operates at a switching frequency of 260 kHz, thus allowing smaller sized filter components than what is required with a lower frequency switching regulator. Because of very high efficiency (> 90%), the copper trace on the printed-circuit board is the only heat sinking required. A standard inductor for use with the LM2674MX-5.0/NOPB is available from a different manufacturer. This feature greatly simplifies the design of a switch-mode power supply using this advanced IC. Also included in the data sheet is a selector guide for a diode and a capacitor designed to work in a switch-mode power supply.
