Transformers

Upstream ballast transformers, often abbreviated as just transformers, are used to convert mains voltages of varying levels and to overcome connector systems in different countries. Mainly upstream transformers are used in industry, for example for non EMC-compliant (electromagnetic compatibility) machine and plant components from abroad, in order to be able to connect them to the locally available network.

While the voltage of the electricity grid in Germany and other European countries is 230 to 240 volts, the following countries, among others, have lower mains voltages, which must be converted with the aid of series transformers:

  • USA (110 – 120 Volt)
  • Japan (100 Volt)
  • China (220 Volt)

Both upstream transformers in economy circuit (here no galvanic isolation takes place) and some isolating transformers are offered. The latter prevent electrical lines between circuits and have non-conductive coupling elements.
