For reliable frequency management, you need oscillators. Essentially, oscillators are electronic circuits that generate oscillations on their own.
In so-called SMD crystal oscillators or quartz oscillators, there is an oscillating crystal in the core of the circuit. This determines the frequency. By amplifying and feeding back the electrical signal into the quartz crystal, a sustained resonance is generated - this creates an electrical oscillator. Due to the properties of the quartz crystal, it is considered very stable and also works independent of temperature. With the appropriate connections, the SMD quartz oscillator is soldered directly onto the printed circuit board.
Basic accuracy and frequency stability are considered particularly high for quartz oscillators. The deviations of the nominal frequency here are less than 100 ppm, while oscillator circuits with LC resonant circuits, for example, can have differences of up to 10,000 ppm. Crystal oscillators are used where miniaturization at low frequency is required. Applications for SMD crystal oscillators include wireless data communication devices, processors, microcontrollers, radio equipment, various PC applications and electric clocks.
