Suppressor combinations are used in order to filter and eliminate interference in electrical devices. When the requirement is to overcome high-frequency interference, ferrite generally achieves the objective. In the low-frequency range, you need other filters. Power supply units for instance incorporate input-side suppressor capacitors. On the secondary side they have additional filters consisting of a combination of capacitors, resistors and chokes. The requirement may be to filter out mains hum or other interference noises due to variations in earth potential arising from the connection of earth leads of various devices to each other – the application spectrum of such suppressor combinations is very wide. They are widely used specifically in vehicle technology and in all areas, notably those to do with audio technology, video technology and computer technology.
