Diodes are electrical components that ensure that current flows in only one direction. They consist of a so-called n-semiconductor and a p-semiconductor. Communication between the differently charged conductors creates a balanced boundary layer. If the n-conductor is now connected to the negative pole and the p-conductor to the positive pole of an electrical source, the resulting electrical voltage can move unhindered through the boundary layer.
The direction in which current can now flow unhindered is called the flow direction. In the other direction - the reverse direction - no current can flow. Diodes are therefore used where current flow in only one direction is desired. But diodes are also used where electrical voltage is to be stabilized, limited or controlled.
Diodes are often installed as so-called rectifier diodes or bridge rectifiers to convert alternating voltage into direct voltage. They are used, for example, in the operation of household appliances. TVS diodes protect electrical circuits from overvoltage. Zener diodes help stabilize or limit voltages within a system. Also in our range: Schottky diodes, switching diodes, capacitance diodes and current control diodes.
