What is a potentiometer? In short, the so-called ponti is a passive component. Its task: to regulate the electrical resistance - for example in amplifiers or radio and television sets. As a rule, a distinction is made between different designs:
- Wire potentiometer
- Multi-turn potentiometer
- Layer potentiometer
- Trim potentiometer
- Tandem potentiometer
- Rotary potentiometer with switch
- Foil potentiometers
- Motorized potentiometers
- Electronic potentiometers
In terms of construction, the potentiometer consists of a resistive material which is located on or between non-conductive carriers. A sliding contact, the so-called wiper, scans this resistance material - in this way a variable resistance value can be tapped.
