In the area of automation, water alarms and water level switches are often used as leak protection systems. They are used when water, as a coolant, for example, is needed ensure that a defined upper temperature limit is not exceeded during a process. They are ideal instruments for protecting entire systems from damage resulting from leaks in the system. Their integrated measurement processes allow them to constantly monitor the electrical conductivity of the water. A reduction in conductivity indicates that the quantity of insulating air in the monitored area is increasing. An alarm can then be triggered or a pump automatically activated to compensate for the water loss. To secure water supply, water alarms are used in washing machines and dishwashers. Water level switches are also commonly used in well shafts to monitor the water level.
