Tubular lamps

Tubular lamps

Tubular lamps need a special base socket in order to close the circuit with the contacts at two opposite ends. The cylinder-shaped lamp has a glow wire and works similarly to a light bulb. Modern tubular lamps are equipped with LEDs. Applications range from lighting smaller displays via doorbell signs to car lighting. For use as an indicator or tail lights, the lamps must bear the ECE approval mark or a K-certificate. In some cases, e.g. in antenna inputs of radio receivers, tubular lamps are used as fuses. In case of unacceptably high current peaks, the glow wire burns and the circuit is interrupted. This way, the device is protected against damage.
