Snap acting switch

Snap acting switch

Snap action switches or micro-switches designated as snap action switches belong to the category of mechanical directly operated switches. Pressing the switch activates or deactivates the circuit. To achieve activation, the operating button must be depressed with a certain force. At the switching point the system then snaps to the other switch position, after which the switch button again reverts to its home position. These switches require only a small space and are characterised by a long working life. They are often provided with solder contacts or plug contacts for circuit board use. A well-known application is in the doors or microwave ovens, where the snap-action switch checks whether the door is open or closed.
