SMD thick-film resistors

SMD thick-film resistors

SMD thick-film resistors are characterised by a specific base material, such as a ceramic slice or ceramic film. During the production process, a paste of metal oxide or carbon-based material is applied to this base material, and compressed at high pressure. This results in a film thickness of approx. 0.01 mm, which amongst other things permits it to withstand a high impulse load, represented by a brief significantly increased electrical power. Resistors manufactured by this method are highly insensitive to environmental influences. Therefore they are used for instance in automobile electronics, where insensitiveness to impulse spikes and resistance to the effects of pollutant gases such as sulphur are an advantage. These resistors, being SMD devices with a chip format, are particularly compact and can be soldered to circuit boards by means of an automated process.
