Short-travel buttons and input buttons belong to the category of mechanical directly operated switches, by which a circuit or other input form is activated or deactivated. The buttons are pressed down a short distance and then revert to their home position. This triggers the switching mechanism. However because of the return travel to the home position, the current status of the switch it is not apparent. Therefore there exist also illuminated variants which render it evident whether the circuit is active or not. Short-travel buttons and input buttons can be fully integrated into a front plate or control panel so that only the buttons themselves are visible. The fields of application are very various and range from lamps and remote controls through to automatic vending machines and production machines in industry.
