SATA cables connect internal hard drives with a SATA connection directly to the mainboard of a computer. The cable is then used for data exchange between the processor and the hard drive. Compared to IDE connections used for older hard drives, which still used ribbon cables, SATA cables are very space-saving, light and flexible, and they can also be inserted or removed during operation. With coded plugs it is not possible to plug them in incorrectly. Integrated locking also ensure a good connection even in case of vibrations. In addition to hard drives, Blu-ray or DVD drives can be connected. eSATA-cables are provided for external cabling.
