OLED displays

OLED displays

Organic LEDs (organic light-emitting diodes) are parts of innovative display technology. In these, organic semiconducting polymers, which are chemical compounds consisting of very large molecules, light up as soon as voltage is applied to them. In contrast to LED displays, OLED displays therefore require no crystal layer in order to guide light into paths - they thus can display a wide range of colours. They can thus be used to create extremely thin low-power but also high-contrast and quick-response displays, visible from a wide angle. Dot-matrix OLED displays, which are used for instance as status displays on equipment or as information displays in cars, benefit from these characteristics. Such displays are activated by an integral microcontroller which takes care of the text display and at the same time generates all the necessary signals.
