Equipped either with a swivelling or pivoting light sensor, lux meters are particularly versatile. Thanks to optimised preinstalled settings, lights such as LED, neon or halogen can be reliably detected. A light meter in a work area can reveal inadequate lighting. Energy-efficient lamps and LED lights illuminate less strongly after a few years. Lux meters can also be used for other applications, such as checking street lights. Gardeners can use them to find the optimum light conditions for their plants at different times of day and in different seasons.
