Load disconnecting switches

Load disconnecting switches

Load disconnecting switches are a combination of disconnecting switches and on-load switches. Disconnecting switches – referred to as: disconnectors – have an immediately recognisable switch setting, which gives information about live and deactivated parts of the system. They cannot however be opened when the circuit is under load. Load switches on the other hand can be operated under load, but do not provide any isolating distance. Load disconnecting switches combine both functions and are used to advantage as main switches for equipment in the medium-voltage range. As a rule they are protected by a locking mechanism or an additional cover against unauthorised use; they are often used as repair or maintenance switches.
