Installation contactors and relays

Installation contactors and relays

If installed in switch cabinets, contactors and relays differ only slightly. Contactors have a higher switching capacity, are double break and require only make and break contact. Relays may also be a switch, so-called change-over contacts. If a consumer’s electricity requirement is too high, the maximum rated current of switch contacts can be exceeded, when switching on by the consumer. As a result the contacts burn. That is why the switch comes with a contactor on its side. The contactor implements the switch command and provides power to the consumer without overloading the contacts of the switch. Relays, however, are used in many ways, such as for monitoring voltage, control of low-power devices, stairwell lights and many more.
