Heat sinks

Heat sinks

Heat sinks are used to dissipate the heat generated by electronic components. They prevent overheating; in their absence, the components would become very hot, which could result in their destruction. Heat sinks are often used in semiconductors, whose waste heat cannot be dissipated without addition effort. Miniature heat sinks of aluminium sheet are pressed directly onto the component. The press fit ensures both thermal contact and mechanical connection. The components’ waste heat is transferred to the heat sink, which releases it into the surrounding air. Heat sinks are used in output stage of hi-fi amplifiers or with LED lamps.
