The heat-conducting wafers made of ceramic have a very high thermal conductivity. In electronic components, they ensure that the heat generated is optimally distributed and is dissipated quickly at critical points. These are used for instance between semiconductors and heat sinks. Heat pipes, on the other hand, can transport heat very efficiently from one place to another. They are made of copper and work with water. Heat pipes make use of the fact that large amounts of energy are released when a liquid evaporates. This vaporisation heat serves to transport waste heat. Heat pipes are often used to cool microprocessors in laptops, notebooks, and other computers.
