Fluorescent light tubes

Fluorescent light tubes

Colloquially called neon tubes, fluorescent light tubes need a high voltage for switching on. This so-called ignition voltage ionises the gas filling and brings it to light. Ignition voltage is created by ballasts that can be built into the lamp. This is the case with most energy-efficient lamps. Depending on model, fluorescent light tubes, are powered by conventional or electronic ballasts. Fluorescent light tube applications include kitchen, bathroom and basement lighting. Professional uses include lighting of workplaces, assembly areas and streets. Their lifetime of up to 20,000 hours reduces maintenance requirements and costs. Simultaneously, the light output per watt is many times higher than light bulbs.
