Film resistors

Film resistors

A film resistor consists of a heat-resistant insulator of either ceramic or hard glass, on to which a film of carbon or metal is applied. Depending on the spray-on time and the resulting film thickness, the result is a wide range of resistance values. Film resistors are divided into carbon film resistors and metal film resistors. On account of their generally low power, the former are used predominantly in the high-frequency field, whilst the latter can withstand higher temperatures, offer higher precision and therefore are often used for demanding applications in industry.
