Facility automation is the networked totality of all devices that monitor, regulate, or control various functions in a building or building complex. It is used to regulate conditions such as lighting, ventilation, or temperature. Among this type of automation unit includes devices such as motion detectors, temperature controllers, and logic modules that control shutters and windows, for example. Practical radio systems allow such units to control multiple devices without fixed lines. Warning devices which protect people from danger, such as smoke or gas detectors, are integrated into such automation systems, as are monitoring devices ensuring a safe, reliable water supply. Facility automation is used in both private households and public buildings.
