Emergency stop switches and emergency stop buttons
As the name indicates, emergency stop switches switch off electrical machines, vehicles or entire systems in the event of an emergency. When the button is pressed, the switch either interrupts the complete power supply or at least brings the equipment into a safe state. In most cases however the power supply is stopped. After the button has been pressed, it latches in the depressed position. Depending on the field of application, it can subsequently be unlatched either by twisting the button or by use of a key. For reasons of safety, after the button has been unlatched the equipment does not restart until the start controls are activated. The switch takes the form of a red button on a yellow background, so that it is clearly recognisable.
