IP-cameras, also called network cameras are connected to a network and can be handled from a computer or even on mobile devices that are connected to the Internet. On some models, a stand-alone operation is possible without a PC. IP-cameras are integrated via an Ethernet cable or WLAN to a network and are used, inter alia, in the monitoring of property, residential or commercial areas. Depending on configuration, night surveillance, zoom, motion detection, and direct saving to a SD card are supported. Cameras for outdoor use are of course protected against dust, dirt and water. In larger area monitoring, HD resolutions promise sharp images with high zoom capability, so that every unauthorised access is reliably detected.
