The LED can reach a useful life of up to 50,000 operating hours, depending on the light source and manufacturer. Given 250 working day per annum at a daily operating time of eleven hours, the LED will withstand a life cycle of 18 years. Other standard lamps will refuse to light up a lot earlier, i.e. in comparison, fluorescent lamps will last an average operating time of 18,000 hours and halogen bulbs will only last for 2,000 hours. This means that it is practically not necessary to replace LED light sources. Extensive maintenance work in places which are difficult to access, e.g. in industrial production halls, can be dispensed with. This renders LED light sources significantly more maintenance-free compared to other lamps and, at the same time, saves you costs for procurement and working hours.
Depending on their area of application, LEDs will stay practically maintenance-free across their entire operating time. LED light sources will not attract insects, i.e. the luminary will stay free of excrements and spider webs. Merely dust particles may contaminate LED light sources as time goes by. However, these can be removed quickly and easily in the course of cleaning tasks. Not so with standard luminaires: Here, the stubborn soiling with excrements inhibits the emission of light, while energy requirements remain the same. This is why standard light sources need to be cleaned tediously and at shorter intervals.
However, there are certain factors that have a negative influence on the useful life of LEDs. These include corrosive atmospheres, e.g. in rooms with high sulfur dioxide content in the air, high salt content in the ambient air, e.g. near coastal areas, vapors from chemical industry, or an average chloride content in the air, e.g. in the environment of swimming pools. However, the light emitted from the chips of the LED luminaire may also reduce the useful life. Within the initial 100 operating hours, the high intensity of the light may have an adverse effect on the aging of the reflector.
Dampness is not a factor that has a direct influence on LEDs as such, because they are insensitive to dampness. Of course, various metal parts or connectors on the inside of the LED module may react to dampness, but the LED light sources will reach the desired useful life if such factors are excluded.
