Ballasts and ignition equipment are required for the operation of gas discharge lamps and fluorescent light bulbs, as these cannot be illuminated with the normal mains voltage of 230 volts. For this purpose, a high voltage pulse is required which ignites the gas contained in the lamp, whereby the current flow occurs. Thus, the discharge current does not continue to rise and destroy the lamp, ballast equipment - also called ballast inductor – is used. Depending on the selected model, this may already be provided with the required ignition and starter equipment. Compared to conventional ballasts electronic versions have a reliable and fast startup, low noise and power dissipation and ensure flicker-free operation.
