Regulating Transformers

Regulating Transformers

The basic function of a regulating transformer, often abbreviated simply as a transformer, is to convert the incoming voltage into a higher or lower AC voltage. In contrast to conventional transformers, the desired output voltage (in volts) can be set within their respective voltage range.

Some of the voltage transformers, also known as regulating transformers, have a stepless regulating function - they can reduce or increase the input voltage to a voltage between 0 and 250 volts without interruption. Variable transformers are mainly used in the professional sector, for example in laboratories or workshops, but are also used in the private sector (e.g. in model making)).

The following criteria are important and should be considered before purchasing a variable or regulating transformer:

  • Output voltage range
  • Current
  • Type
