PLC-Controls

In automation technology, so-called programmable logic controllers (PLCs) are used to control machines. Their great advantage over connection programmable logic controllers (CPLCs) is that the PLC control is programmed digitally via software. While a CPLC depends on hard-wired relay switches and cannot be flexibly adapted to variable requirements.

In general, a PLC contains the following parts:

  • Operating system (Firmware)
  • Interfaces
  • Application program (software for the PLC)
  • Inputs with sensors
  • Outputs with actuators
  • Power supply
  • Control processor
  • Bus system (internal))

PLCs are often used in the home when controlling electrical devices with a smartphone - the PLC passes the command sent from the phone to the appropriate application. They are also indispensable for traffic lights or automated vehicle production.

Before you buy a PLC, you should check certain criteria, such as whether there are enough digital and analog inputs and outputs

Which PLC is the right one?
