Printer

Printers belong to the output devices category and are available in many different types and designs. In general, a distinction is made between different printing techniques:

  • Laser Printer (colour or black-and-white) - in simplified form, a data image is projected onto an electrostatically charged printer drum. The drum then attracts the fine toner dust from the cartridge and burns it onto the paper...
  • Inkjet Printer - here the ink from cartridges / tanks is applied to paper by means of a stepper motor.
  • 3D printer - strictly speaking, these are not actually printers, as they produce objects from thermoplastic or other material. Read more in 3D printing.

The popular multifunction printers, also known as all-in-one printers, are available as both inkjet and laser printers. In addition to the actual printing process, they are also capable of faxing; scanning and copying - most multifunction printers are now also WLAN-capable and can connect wirelessly to laptops and the like.

Buying printers - these are important criteria

The first step is to decide on a printer technology. If you print a lot and frequently, you are well advised to use a laser printer. If, on the other hand, it is important for you to be able to print high-quality photos on different types of paper and media, inkjet printers are more suitable. In addition, there are a number of other criteria such as the number of connections or the size of the paper tray.
